Interested to know what the motivation is for many great competitors. I am struggling to be motivated to compete. Have great supportfrom other throwers but would like to have input from others.
Percy Ceruty ( Herb Elliot's coach) once wrote a book called "Run for Your Life". I'm sure he wrote it for younger track athletes but, it may also apply to us old field wanabees. The Title says it all. There is a little known book still waiting to be written called "Dont Throw your Life Away".
Interesting questing Kevin. The stock answer might be “love of the sport”, but where does that come from? I’ve seen some top athletes, particularly as they age, not come back if they can’t compete at the same level. Of course, some injuries/conditions are show stoppers unfortunately.
I joke that there’s an advantage to mediocrity – you’re rarely disappointed, so I’m just happy to have a go. And there are the health benefits just from training, and the camaraderie. Best of luck with finding your motivation.
Like the title of your future book Guy
